Recently I’ve noticed the LEGO house popping up on some of my go-to sites and in so many trade magazines, that I just had to dive deeper. Bjarke Ingels of BIG; a Copenhagen, New York, and London based group of architects, designers, urbanists, etc., have created a new Lego experience in Billund, Denmark, at the site of the former City Hall.
It is so much fun! The concept was to engage the public, encourage interaction, and promote all things LEGO. There are 21 overlapping blocks making up the facility. The lower level houses the History Collection and the brand’s story, along with a vault to house all first editions of every LEGO set ever manufactured. The main and 2nd levels house play zones arranged by color: red is creative, blue is cognitive, green is social, and yellow is emotional. In the center is an atrium open to all floors with a staircase wrapping the giant LEGO tree. Check it out by searching LEGO house!
