Discovery Square in Rochester, Minnesota is a 16 block sub-district built in collaboration with Mayo Clinic in a highly connected urban life science hub.
Mayo Clinic is adding three research centers in a four-story facility on the Destination Medical Center campus in Rochester, MN due for completion in 2019.
The bioresearch campus will be the centerpiece of Discovery Square, one of six sub-districts in the DMC development district. It will feature a combination of research, commercial and product development space located near the Guggenheim Building,
“Mayo Clinic is making a firm commitment to really expand dramatically into the area of bioscience,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith. “We’re well on our way toward making Rochester, Minnesota, America’s capital of health.”
Discovery Square borrows from Mayo Clinic’s integrated care model to create an integrated district founded in the principles of translational medicine. As a “Silicon Valley of Medicine,” Discovery Square brings doctors and researchers together in this one-of-a-kind campus to explore and bring innovative new discoveries to patients faster.
“It’s a very important milestone for DMC because Discovery Square has unparalleled opportunity to really create this dense, mixed-use neighborhood all anchored by this signature space,” Lisa Clarke, executive director of DMC’s Economic Development Authority.
The development in the Discovery Square area will “bring together renowned physicians, researchers, scientists and entrepreneurs to address unmet patient needs in an ultramodern setting for science innovation,” according to Mayo.
It’s an exciting and groundbreaking approach to combining healthcare, research, and hospitality into a central area. There is a great deal of additional information available on the DMC’s website.
