By: Terin Jaggard Is the recession over? It sure seems like it to me. Upon my graduation in 2008, finding employment was nearly impossible. Several of my classmates could not even find internships (a requirement for graduation). Fast forward to the present and designers seem to be a bit more in demand. Upon being laid off mid-year in 2013, I wasn’t sure what my options for employment would be. I was pleasantly surprised by several offers and notifications of design openings in the area, making my unemployment only about a 3 week period. There is no doubt that a few years of experience and answered prayers played a large part in my experience, but it made me wonder about future employment opportunities for designers in Indiana. According to careerinfonet.org, interior design employment is expected to rise 20% between 2010 and 2020. Compare that to the national 10 year projection (2012 to 2022) at 13%. Hopefully these stats put a smile on all of the faces of new Hoosier design graduates.
