Our society is speeding along at the pace of technology, and our schedules are packed with commitments. Some of us are great multi-taskers and we thrive on staying busy, checking off lists of to-dos, but we can only keep up at that pace for so long. Our brains need a break from work, extra curriculars, and we need regular time to recharge whether that means a nap, or a hobby, or some quality time with loved ones. A wise woman, cough cough, Donna Metallic, has said many times, “work will be here tomorrow.” We need uninterrupted time to really enjoy the people and activities we work hard to enjoy, right?! Unwinding is an important part of good health, and so is sleep! Are you getting your 7-8 hours of sleep each night? Most nights I do not, but I know I need to work on that.
Sleep helps our brains function properly, help with emotional wellbeing and aids in our problem-solving and creative skills, which we all need, whether we’re designers or we work in other professions. Proper amounts of sleep also help our bodies heal from injuries and sickness, lower our risks for heart disease, high blood pressure and other health concerns. For more information on why sleep is so important, you can read a National Institutes of Health article here.
