10 Basics of Leadership

10 Basics of Leadership

By: Cherie Y. Anderson For nearly two years, I have had a great opportunity to attend a weekly mentorship meeting on servant leadership. The class is made up of a group of people with various backgrounds and skills, but share a common desire to make a positive impact within the organizations they work, the communities they live in and in their families.  Below are 10 basic points that one should possess and practice to become a good leader. 1.       Good leaders recognize the value, skills and gifts in others. 2.       Good leaders share information with those on their team. 3.       Good leaders have above average character. 4.       Good leaders use their influence for the good of others to make a positive influence. 5.       Good leaders are skillful and competent. They are professional and follow through to see that projects and tasks are completed. 6.       Good leaders are not afraid for others to have success beyond theirs knowing an individual’s accomplishment supports the   overall success of the organization.   7.       Good leaders serve those on their team, their partners and their customers to ensure overall satisfaction with the end product. 8.       Good leaders are life-long learners. They never see themselves as arrived. 9.       Good leaders remain accessible, approachable and accountable. 10.   Good leaders are visionary; they think beyond today.
