May Community Spotlight: YMCA of Greater Indianapolis
When we talk about IDO’s Core Values, we will often use the word “Connectedness.” The IDO team defines this Core Value of Connectedness; as a special and powerful collective energy that emerges when we connect with each other, our clients and business partners, and our community.
Over the years we have learned the best way to get connected to others is to find synergies around values we all have in common. But this year feels even more dynamic. As we continue to move past the pandemic and reconnect with those we have missed these past two years we turn our attention to our most treasured community connections. When we talk about connecting with our community we have one go-to organization where the synergies between our organizations runs high. That organization is the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. Here are a few things you may not know about our local YMCA:
Their Vision:
“We see a future filled with positive change. And to ensure we’re a driving force behind this, we’ve embraced a very bold and important vision: Become one of the country’s ten healthiest communities by 2025. We know that reaching this goal won’t be easy. But with the support of a thriving community, we’re confident that, together, we can do it.”
Their Mission:
“To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.”
Their Areas of Focus:
“Being a force for positive change in our community means being focused. Here are the areas we’re concentrating on, one person at a time: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility”
Their history:
“The original YMCA was born in London, England, in 1844. The beginning of the YMCA in Central Indiana goes back nearly as far: 1854, to be exact. That’s more than 150 years of focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility here in Greater Indianapolis. We’ve endured wars, floods, recessions, and depressions. And we’ve always responded by being here for our neighbors.
Today, our facility and program centers serve more than 200,000 people from every age and walk of life—providing over $7 million in scholarships, program subsidies and underwritten programs in low-income communities.”
Our IDO Team is proud to be connected to the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. We cannot think of a better way to support our community. In fact, the Y has lots of ways for you to participate and connect with them this year. Consider joining them for their 6th annual YMCA Cycle-a-Thon on May 14th, 2022. Or on November 17th, 2022, their Tee up for Veteran’s Event. Connecting – Together, we can do it!
