By: Jill Mendoza We have a history of living the beliefs and values that have shaped us. For the last 25 years, we’ve been united in our commitment to our clients by providing the discipline of Commercial Interior Design to serve the needs of their mission critical environments. We are so very fortunate to now be looking to the future and setting the stage for the next 25 years.
At our 2016 Christmas dinner celebration, attended by all our IDO Associates and their family and friends, everyone closed their eyes and were asked to CREATE an image of IDO in 2036. Then the question, what do you see?, was posed.
If you think about it the year (1992) IDO began, the World Population was 5.441 Billion verse today’s 7.404 Billion, Washington defeated Buffalo (37-24) in the Super Bowl (Sorry Gar!), The Silence of the Lambs won Best Picture at the Oscars, compact discs surpass cassette tapes as the preferred medium for recorded music, a text-based Web browser is made available to the public (Jan.); within a few years, millions of people became regular users of the World Wide Web, 172 nations address issues of environmental protection and sustainable development at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Some sign binding agreements to minimize global climate change and preserve biodiversity, and Johnny Carson hosts The Tonight Show for the last time, after ruling late-night television for 20 years.
Throughout these twenty-five years, there have been so many sources of goodness, resilience and passion from which our team has gained strength from. We have cultivated relationships with our clients, our business partners, our community and our associates. We have served many great organizations & institutions. Additionally we have developed many valuable relationships within the building industry including many construction management firms, building contractors, facility management teams, industry manufacturers and suppliers and most importantly other design professionals.
Now if you visualize IDO 25 years from now, for me, the image of the most successful design firm on the planet comes into focus. Not because of size, or purpose, or what is accomplished but mainly because of the culture we have created. We have learned to embrace the practice of continuous improvement and acknowledge a sustainable company creates a body of wealth and value allowing future generations to be the best they can be. We see those who are currently learning……..teaching, those who are looking forward to what the future holds, preparing a better path for the generation of IDO’ers who follow them and so on and so on……
One last nugget of wisdom can be found in our own Lee’s recent blog where she credits “Creative Confidence…“When you open your mind to the possibility that your capabilities are unlimited and unknown, you already have your running shoes on and are ready to race forward.”
Cheers to the next 25 years and the future promise IDO Incorporate holds! Now, that question asked at dinner, “what do you see in 2036”; an image of another great IDO Christmas Dinner came into full focus!
