By: Amanda Medlen I know we are all knowledgeable of the importance of recycling and being environmentally conscious but I also know that it is just as easily forgotten about. I think a lot of times it comes down to people not wanting to deal with it or fuss with it…to just take the ‘easy road’ out and toss it. If we could just take a little time and research things we might find that it is easier than we expected. Just yesterday I sat through a learning session on the importance of carpet reclamation and recycling. The numbers and statistic of the amount of carpet that hits landfills and the equivalent of possible energy that we could extract from that was astonishing. Did you even know that it takes some carpets up to 50 years to fully decompose! Yikes! Also, from this session, I learned that there is solution right here in Indianapolis – Kruse Carpet Recycling. Here is their claim, “Kruse Carpet Recycling receives, sorts, and processes post consumer carpet at our facility based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. The carpet that we receive is either completely recycled through various different outlets or goes to waste to energy at our local, state of the art Covanta incinerator. We guarantee that none of the carpet we receive will go to a landfill.” I encourage you all to visit their site and learn more about them!
