By: Terin Jaggard How important is it for interior design firms to look for work internationally? According to a 2013 article in Interior Design (magazine), global projects are on the rise and hit an all-time high in 2012, when 25% of interior design firms had foreign work. And which parts of the world are bringing in the most income? 85% of global firms report projects in Asia and the Pacific Rim, 58% in Canada, 46% in the Middle East, 37% in Central and South America, and 27% in Africa. In 2013, China as well as Central and South America were expected to bring the most new opportunities overseas, though domestic profit was still expected to trump foreign work in terms of growth potential. It can be assumed that as the U.S. economy continues to recover, homeland projects will continue to be the “bread and butter” of most American design firms.
