By: Yvonne Rush and Lindsay Ferro As we mentioned in our previous blog post this week (Interior Designers to Fashion Designers: Part I), IDO partnered with Architex to create a fab 1920’s Industrial Innovation themed ensemble for the IIDA Indiana Avant Garb Fashion show last Friday. Here’s a look at backstage and the overall experience! Like any fashion show, the models arrived early and got ready backstage. Aveda students did the hair and makeup for each design firm’s model. Next came wiggling into the handmade outfits. Unlike any normal fashion show the preparation included some extra pinning, gluing, and adding last minute finishing touches of architectural and design materials. After perfecting the runway walk, applying a few hot glue fixes, and leaving a trail of glitter, we were ready for a glamorous night. Once on stage, IDO’s outfit was truly electrifying- it lit up! Yvonne gave her best Twenties’ Woman strut and struck a pose at the end of the stage. It was slightly terrifying, but so thrilling. All the fun wasn’t had back stage and on stage though! The IDO team enjoyed seeing all of the different fashion designs, voting for the people’s choice (of course we were a little biased), socializing with fellow designers, and submitting selfies for Know No Stranger to sketch and project on walls across the venue. Overall, the entire experience was a lot of fun and IIDA put on an amazing event! Although we enjoyed trying our hand at fashion design and modeling, I think we will be sticking to our interior design roles… But you can expect to see a showstopper from us at the next IIDA Indiana Fashion Show!
