By: Gary K. Pino, FMP If you didn’t hear, read or see first-hand Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano giving his emotional speech to his team after beating the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, then you must have either been out of the country, on another planet or had your head in the sand. In other words, it was one of the most aw-inspiring speeches I and a whole bunch of other people for that matter, have ever seen / heard in a long time. In fact, it went viral 5 minutes after its taping. For those of you who missed it, here is Coach Pagano’s speech in full: “’I mentioned before the game that you guys were living in a vision and you weren’t living in circumstances. Because you know where they had us in the beginning. Every last one of them. ‘But you refused to live in circumstances and you decided consciously, as a team, and as a family, to live in a vision. And that’s why you bring things home like you brought home today. That’s why you’re already champions, and well on your way. ‘I got circumstances. You guys understand it. I understand it. It’s already beat. It’s already beat. My vision that I’m living, see two more daughters getting married, dancing at their weddings, and then hoisting that Lombardi several times and watch that confetti fall on this group right here. ‘Several times, we’re going to hoist that baby. I’m dancing at two more weddings. And we’re hoisting that trophy together man. Congratulations.” Wow … huh? I know … right? And the really cool thing about that speech is that it can and/or does have so many meanings and applications to it … from life lessons to business situations. The obvious key words steering us in the face are “circumstances” and “vision”. From a life lesson stand point, my interpretation of Coach Pagano’s speech is something I try to live by all the time; and that is, if everyone in your neighborhood brought their family problems out to the middle of the street to compare with your problems and the rest of the neighbors, you would feel so blessed to just pick-up your problems, go back inside your house and carry on with life. From a business sense, we are all dealt certain ‘circumstances’ … good, bad and indifferent. But if we collectively band together in times of need in an ‘All for one and one for all’ mentality ~ instead of a ‘what’s in it for me – me only’ expectation, then we can reach our goals and live the dream …or as it relates to this business example, fulfill the vision!
