Moving the Masses

Moving the Masses

By: Rhonda Wessel If you ever want to experience moving masses of people and how to do it you only need to visit Disney World once in Orlando, Florida.   My family and I spent the week at Disney World and stayed in one of the largest resorts on the property called Pop Century.  Pop Century is the only resort that the shuttle buses will run from the resort directly to the parks without stopping at other resorts along the way.  They run to Downtown Disney, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, the Boardwalk, and Typhoon Lagoon.  As you may have guessed Magic Kingdom is the most popular park.   The line every morning for the shuttle bus at Pop Century to Magic Kingdom was lined up to the lobby doors.  For the month of September you wouldn’t think Disney World would be so busy with kids back in school, but it was, with kids of all ages and people from all over the world. The buses kept rolling in one after another in the mornings, and there were usually 3-4 buses if not more for Magic Kingdom lined up ready to go.  The buses run every twenty minutes throughout the day so you can catch one to your favorite Disney World destination.  One of the things Disney has done really well is mastered how to get people from one place to another.  Once you get to the park of your choice you can opt to ride the ferry, the monorail, train, or bus to go back and forth between parks, travel to the Boardwalk or to another resort.  There is so much to do and explore.  Can you imagine all the planning involved for transportation as Disney World was being designed?   It is a city all on it’s own and it is constantly growing and changing to keep people coming back again and again.  I was impressed with how smoothly everything seemed to run.  I had great respect and admiration for all of the Facilities Planners, Project Managers, Designers, City Planners, and Architects past and present who have spent hours, hours, and hours designing and planning every detail at Disney World.  What a fun place it would be to work!  The details in the architecture and design of each building, ride, and entertainment, and the transportation and beyond was amazing to me. Of course, our daughter had a blast meeting all of her favorite Disney characters.  We will definitely be going again!
