On the MUCH lighter side of things but a true WIN-WIN for all parties involved

By: Gary K. Pino, FMP  As one of my other esteem IDO Incorporated colleagues once said, “I am so lucky to have an employer who encourages and supports community service and involvement.”  In addition to having such a supportive Firm Principal / employer, one of the local industry associations that I have been a member of since the late 1980’s (International Facility Management Association – IFMA) is also a huge community service endorser and participant. Each month, I get the privilege and opportunity to volunteer and go to St. Mary’s Child Center (located at 901 W Dr. Martin Luther King Jr St, Indianapolis, IN 46202) to read books to a few of the preschool classes.  I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I get as much pleasure out of this activity and encounter as the various age groups of preschoolers do.  Even though my five (5) children are 30, 28, 24, 23 and 19, it truly brings back many sweet and fond memories of reading to my kids at bed time. The point of this brief blog is to formally recognize and thank my employer, IDO Incorporated, IFMA and the preschoolers of St. Mary’s Child Center for providing me with the chance to participate and give my time to a group of very young school children that just seem to hang on every word I read.  The moral of my story today is, “Every child matters and every story truly makes a difference.”     Giving back to the community and/or “Paying It Forward” are just two (2) of the greatest character builders a person could participate in.  Just being able to help others, who may not be as fortunate as you are or helping to successfully touch another person’s life in a positive way can be so humbling … in such a great way! I am so grateful and appreciative for being so lucky to have been given so much in my life, to be where I am today and for being a part of such a fine organization who promotes service to others… Doing something for another person, without expecting anything in return is the greatest gift / reward a human being could give & receive.   So, Pay it Forward whenever you have a chance …
