Sometimes, business relationships take years to form but when they positively and successfully connect, the sky’s the limit … and they keep coming back!

By:  Gary K. Pino, FMP When I was a much younger Project Manager, the greatest tribute I ever received from a Client was, “Thank you very much for a job well done.”  Then, as I “grew-up”, I graduated to the next phase of being praised by hearing the client say, “Wow, you helped our company successfully take this project from concept through completion by bringing it in under budget and on time!”   One would almost think that – that complimentary statement is the ultimate honor of tributes which a PM could ever receive … but believe it or not, not to this PM … and I’ll tell you why and what is the pinnacle accolade for me.  But before I do, I wanted to share an inspiring quote with you, which I came across when my wife attended a “Get ready to Learn! Get ready to Lead!” Seminar last month … “Every time you do something nice for someone, you create a positive imprint, and positive impressions are like seeds.  It may take 1, 5 or 10 years, but those seeds will blossom and flower in some wonderfully unexpected ways.”   By Linda Kaplan Thaler After celebrating thirteen (13) years of service with IDO Incorporated, I have met so many people and so many new clients over the past decade-plus; and have been able to nurture and grow as many business relationships and partnerships along the way.  It’s so interesting to recognize and say that a number of recent projects have taken many years to cultivate but have ultimately come true for our firm. Why just last month, I received a call from a previous client that I worked with six (6) years ago and he said he, “needed and wanted our Specialized Move Management expertise on a rather delicate and “hurry-up” type project.  In fact, if the sponsor had his way, the project would have been completed last Thursday!”   After gathering all of the information I needed, I scheduled my trip, and shuffled off to Maine to begin the project.  In case you are wondering where am I going with all of this?  Well, to where I said I would take you … to the client compliment of all client compliments … when I asked the client why he called our Firm back to help coordinate and facilitate this Specialized Move Management project after so many years of not hearing from him, he simply and succinctly stated, “First, I needed this project done right, and your IDO service expertise lets me do what I do best.”   And to me, that’s the greatest words a client could ever say … What complimentary message from a client gets you motivated and inspired?    Please share …
